City Council Report - Climate Change Impact in San Diego [BP 9]

[Introduction] This article was based on the Climate Change Impact in San Diego. I will be reporting on what is happening and what will happen.

[Summary] San Diego may expect these:

  1. Warming
  2. Sea level rise
  3. Ocean acidification
  4. Ocean deoxygenation
[impact #1] Surface ocean temperatures and air temperatures have increased across the entire globe, and we can expect the same to happen in San Diego. This will have impacts on animals and humans by where we live, what we eat, what we fish, who fishes, and what will become extinct.

[impact #2] Glaciers and icebergs are melting, causing the oceans to fill with more water. San Diego can expect to experience the same, and the impact on animals and humans will be less food, acidification filled water, local die-offs, and floods.

[impact #3] Carbon dioxide dissolving in the oceans will cause it to become more acidic, which will affect animals and human due to the animals shells will break down and become easier to be killed, this means there won't be food for humans and then more for animals that eat these prey. This could be a problem because if an animal eats 20 crabs a year and they eat 20 crabs in one season that's a problem.

[impact #4] Ocean begins to lose it oxygen. Warmer water does not hold as much gas as cold water because of how the ph balance and chemicals are set up. Warm water/ less oxygen filled water can kill many animals and result in local dieoffs.

[conclusion] Because of these impacts and consequences, the City Council can begin planning for a future San Diego.  But, we can't just rely on the City Council. We have to rely on us. We can all try to make a difference at home and if the City Council doesn't take the neccessary precautions that they need to take we need to make sure they enforce what we have elected them to do, and that is represent/ help our San Diegan Citizen.
