City Council Report - Climate Change Impact in San Diego [BP 9]

[Introduction] This article was based on the Climate Change Impact in San Diego. I will be reporting on what is happening and what will happen.

[Summary] San Diego may expect these:

  1. Warming
  2. Sea level rise
  3. Ocean acidification
  4. Ocean deoxygenation
[impact #1] Surface ocean temperatures and air temperatures have increased across the entire globe, and we can expect the same to happen in San Diego. This will have impacts on animals and humans by where we live, what we eat, what we fish, who fishes, and what will become extinct.

[impact #2] Glaciers and icebergs are melting, causing the oceans to fill with more water. San Diego can expect to experience the same, and the impact on animals and humans will be less food, acidification filled water, local die-offs, and floods.

[impact #3] Carbon dioxide dissolving in the oceans will cause it to become more acidic, which will affect animals and human due to the animals shells will break down and become easier to be killed, this means there won't be food for humans and then more for animals that eat these prey. This could be a problem because if an animal eats 20 crabs a year and they eat 20 crabs in one season that's a problem.

[impact #4] Ocean begins to lose it oxygen. Warmer water does not hold as much gas as cold water because of how the ph balance and chemicals are set up. Warm water/ less oxygen filled water can kill many animals and result in local dieoffs.

[conclusion] Because of these impacts and consequences, the City Council can begin planning for a future San Diego.  But, we can't just rely on the City Council. We have to rely on us. We can all try to make a difference at home and if the City Council doesn't take the neccessary precautions that they need to take we need to make sure they enforce what we have elected them to do, and that is represent/ help our San Diegan Citizen.

Artic Tales [BP8]

In watching the movie Arctic Tales (2007) by National Geographic I got to experience the life of a Polarbear and a walrus from birth till Adulthood, and the impact Global Warming had on these animals. When getting to opportunity to actually see the effects that happened I am mortified by the realization that human actions that I have a hand in executing, are causing a dramatic problem on animals. These animals had to go through deaths and their own near death experiences that otherwise wouldn't have happened.

The main causes of the melting ice is because the planet and ocean is warming. This warming is mainly caused by the human race. The planet and ocean are warming because of too much Carbon Dioxide output. This is leading to the Greenhouse effect. The Greenhouse is like a blanket, causing the Earth to retain more of its heat.

Teenagers can do alot of things to stop Global Warming. One thing is to unplug their phones after its already 100%. This reduces the amount of electricity and energy. Another, is to try to carpool or ride your bicycles. This saves gasoline from going into our atmosphere. Also, you can plant trees. Trees take in carbon dioxide and let out Oxygen.

If teenagers all around the world try to make an effort at doing just one of these things our future can be a whole lot brighter. If teenagers make a genuine effort then maybe just maybe our grand and great grandchildren might see a polar bear or a walrus and they one be high on the endangered list.

Some global warming deniers would want us to believe that humans are not causing the planet to warm, but 97% of climate scientists agree: humans are the main cause of the current warming trend. When you think about who a lot of these global warming deniers then you understand why they deny. These deniers are big time oil company owners and factory owners. The people that put out fossil fuels into our atmospheres. They are responsible and instead of trying to make it better for our planet. We are all at fault and until we realize this we will never get better.

What are Galaxies?

Galaxies make up most of the visible matter we can see in the universe. There are over a hundred billion galaxies in the universe. Galaxies are defined as a collection of stars, dust, gas, and planets, and they come in three versions
-Spiral
-Elliptical
-Irregular

Galaxies come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The largest galaxies contain more than a trillion stars, on average most contain billions of stars. Galaxies are measured in Light Years. The largest galaxy in the universe is 6 million light years across.

 Example 1
An Elliptical galaxy is shaped like a sphere, like a ball. The stars in an Elliptical galaxy are often very close together making the center look like one giant star. Galaxies regularly combine, and often form Elliptical galaxies
Example 2

As the name suggests, an Irregular Galaxy has no specific form and can look like anything and have many different characteristics unlike the Elliptical and Spiral galaxies. Many of them are the results of galaxy collision or near misses.

The third type of galaxy, The Spiral, has three main components
-Bulge
-Disk
-Halo
This type of galaxy is what the Milky Way is.

Speaking of the Milky Way, that is the galaxy that earth is located, on one of the "Arms". Our solar system is located 28,000 light years from the center of the Milky Way. The Milky Way is about 100,000 light years across

The Expanding Universe

What are the diafferences between Cosmologists and Astronomers?
The difference is that an Astronomer studies how planets, stars, or galaxies from and evolve, a Cosmologist studies how the entire universe is formed and tries to predict how it will change in the future.

What do Cosmologists and Astronomers have in common?
Most cosmologists and astronomers both believe in the Big Bang Theory.

How do Cosmologists explain the "birth" of the universe,
and what evidence is there to support the theory?
Cosmologists explain the (birth) of the universe through the Big Bang Theory. It is the theory that all matter and energy in the universe was compressed into a small volume that 13 to 15 billion years ago exploded and began expanding in all directions. In the year 1965 researchers had detected cosmic background radiation,  meaning it uniformly detected from every direction in space; considered a remnant of the big bang. Astronomers think that this background radiation formed after the big bang

Universe Rap Song

All along there was a theory
A cold sweat hot headed memory
I put my head through the scope
and found a new hope

Round and a Round and a Round and a Round we go
Ohh Please galaxy don't leave me no

Not really sure how to understand it
Its something in the way you spin
Makes me feel like I am spinning with you
You spin me all the way
I love you galaxy
